Access Statement for Mount Lodge Guest Accommodation


Introduction

We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors in our Victorian house, which covers 3 floors, plus a basement. The following statement is a summary of our provision. If you have any specific questions please feel free to call us and we will endeavour to help.

Pre-Arrival

  • There is a bus stop at the top of the road and there is a half hourly bus service from Bournemouth – No. C1
  • The main train station is 10 minutes away by car.
  • There is a local taxi service that has accessible taxis if required. We can make a booking for you.
  • Brochures can be provided in large print by prior arrangement.
  • We have a website with directions and a rolling map facility.

Arrival & Car Parking facilities

  • We have marked parking bays and there is ample off-road parking in the immediate vicinity.
  • The surface is sloping, as we are located on a fairly steep hill.
  • We can assist guests with luggage.
  • Westbourne village is a 15 minute walk from Mount Lodge. Here there are a variety of shops, plus a good selection of pubs and restaurants.

Main Entrance & Reception

  • The front door has one step 11cm high. The door gap is 72cm wide.
  • The front door is always locked, but there is an easily accessed bell.
  • On entry into Mount Lodge there is a hallway 4m x 2m. This is accessed through double doors, which are 1.65m wide.
  • There is a guest lounge with seating just off the hallway.
  • The majority of the ground floor has wooden floorboards.

Public Areas – General (Internal)

  • The entrance to the breakfast room on the ground floor is 80cm wide.
  • The covering on the stairs and upstairs carpets is short pile carpet.
  • The breakfast room and one bedroom are on the ground floor.
  • There are 14 stairs to a landing followed by a further 5 stairs to the first floor.
  • The stairs are 17cm high, 24cm deep and 84cm wide.

Public Areas – WC

  • A public WC is located on the ground floor, but is not large enough to accommodate wheelchair access.

Dining Room

  • Breakfast is served in the breakfast room on the ground floor. There are no steps. Doorway is 79cm wide.
  • Furniture is flexible and can be moved on request.
  • Tables have under space of 74cm high by 76cm wide.
  • Menus are provided in large print.

Bedrooms

  • We have 8 bedrooms, but they are not all spacious or easily accessible.
  • 1 bedrooms are located on the top floor. (34 stairs & 3 landings for access).
  • Of the remaining 7 bedrooms, there are 2, which we consider to be most accessible and therefore suitable for those with restricted mobility.
  • The first is on the ground floor and the second on the first floor.

Ground Floor Bedroom (Room 1)

  • The entrance door leads off the hallway and is 76cm wide.
  • Room is twin bedded.
  • Space around beds varies but at least 57cm.
  • Beds are moveable on request.
  • There is a wall-mounted television with remote control.
  • There is a fitted short-pile carpet on the floor.
  • There is a flat fronted washbasin in the room. It is 80cm high.
  • There is an en-suite shower room/toilet.

Ground Floor (Room 1) Shower Room/Toilet

  • Door width is 52cm opening outwards.
  • Free floor space between shower base and toilet is 50cm x 90cm.
  • The shower has a step/edge of 14cm.
  • There is one grab rail to the left of the controls.
  • The toilet has a left side transfer with 60cm of free space.
  • The toilet is 42cm high.
  • There is a good colour contrast of floors, wall fittings and fixtures.

First Floor Bedroom (Room7)

  • There are 14 stairs to a landing followed by a further 5 stairs to the first floor.
  • The entrance door leads off the first floor landing and is 76cm wide.
  • The room has a double bed, with space to add a single bed when required.
  • There is a space of 1.5m x 3.5m between the wall and the bed.
  • There is a tapering space at the base of the bed, 0.5m to 1.5m.
  • The bed is 63cm high.
  • There is a wall mounted TV with remote control.
  • The room has a fitted short-pile carpet.
  • There is an en-suite shower room.

First Floor (Room 7) Shower Room/Toilet

  • The door opens outwards and is 66cm wide.
  • The shower cubicle edge/step is 17cm high.
  • When cubicle doors are fully open the entrance width is 42cm.
  • Free floor space is 70cm x 90cm. Wash basin is rounded at the front and 86cm high.
  • Toilet is 40cm high.
  • There are good colour contrasts between wall, floor and fittings.

Grounds and Garden

  • A balcony 2.5m x 5.5m is accessed from double doors leading from the breakfast room. Doors are 1.4m wide with a 10cm ‘step’.
  • The balcony overlooks a small garden, which is accessed down 9 steps.

Additional information

  • We are a five-minute walk from the seafront. This includes two fairly steep hills. The promenade is flat and ‘wheel-chair’ friendly.
  • Bournemouth centre can be accessed by:
  • A 5-minute car/taxi journey.
  • A 25-minute stroll along the promenade
  • A 10-minute ride on the land train. This only runs at ‘high’ season and holiday periods, but is ‘wheelchair’ friendly.
  • Mobile phone reception is generally good.
  • We are a ‘No Smoking’ establishment.
  • We can put items of medication in our main fridge on request. (Not 24 hours)

Additional information – Safety

  • We are able to use both front and back doors in the need of evacuation.
  • A fire-bell will sound continuously if this is needed. If you require extra assistance for an evacuation, please notify us on arrival.
  • Guests with hearing impairment should advise us on arrival.
